New Brand Name?

It hasn't been very long that I have tried to make a name for myself on these series of tubes, I think for the most part I got sucked into this crazy little venture because of Dr. Zaius. I started off with a few expirements and wanted to show them to the world. I jumped in too fast without thinking very clearly of an identity. Now when I look back, I think to myself DerktheJerk and Man-Eating Cheeseburger are not the names I want to be known by. JerktheDerk was the name of a website I made back in high school of some teacher I hated more then prune juice and kinda stuck with me. Man-Eating Cheeseburger was something that came to mind when I was trying to think of something real fast to get a blog up and going. I feel Derkthejerk sends the wrong message and man-eating cheeseburger makes no scenes, so I am going to change the name of both. I have no idea what I'm going to change them to yet, I have only a few thoughts right now, not sure if I even like them really.

Parachute Paul has a Sponser!!!

Two months after the making of Parachute Paul I have made a deal with CasualRock.com to sponsor it. It's not on there website yet but it has been added to countless other sites including Kongregate.com and Newgrounds.com

I have been working on learning a new program for flash that will open up a lot more opportunities to develop in different ways and giving me access to new tools.

Regarding CasualRock.com I couldn't be more exited. This being my first real game outside of working with Dr. Z and having something good come out of it. I hope I will be able to share more about my new game in the coming weeks.

Almost Done

Almost everything is done, I decided to stop at 20 levels. After playing through I am finding that 20 levels might be the sweet spot. I could see how one might begin to get tired and may not finish the game after playing 20 or so levels. 20 is just enough to keep you wanting more, which is a good thing if I decide to make another :)

All that is needed is a mute function and a better name...also a better title page. So another days work and I'll be uploading the beta. Then once its approved by my "community" the non-beta.

Day 12 working on the game and I just finished coding the level menu tonight, and to celebrate here is a new demo with another level. Instructions are not to clear yet, so I'll lay them down below

Left Arrow Key: moves leftRight Arrow Key: moves right

Up Arrow Key: enters doors

Space: Jumps and Opens Parachute

You need to collect coins in each level to open new levels.

Speaking of updraft

In my last post I talked about adding updrafts, about five minutes later I began to obsessed over the idea. Another five minutes I had the artwork, and in another ten minutes had it in level 17. I really don't know why I didn't think of it before, you almost expect to see something like this in a game based around a parachute.

Very simple, but I think it gets the message through on what it is.

Birds and Spikes

So today I was working on level 14, and realize that I have not added any type of death by being impaled. So I am now adding spikes to some of the newer levels. Up to level 16 and I'm starting to run a little dry. Not sure if I need to add new game play elements to mix things up a bit, I have an idea though, by adding updrafts. When you hover over it with your parachute it shoots you up higher into the air, we'll see though.

This is a bird. You can ride on its back while it glides through the air.

Baron Von Blubba

I am very torn on this particular bad guy. He was used in a video game for the NES about 20 years ago. I made this artwork myself, but the design is based on Baron Von Blubba from Bubble Bobble. I have the perfect part for him in the game, but if I add him then the game will not be 100% my creation. I may modify it to make it look a bit different, maybe just a ghost type thing.

On another note, I am now up to 11 stages...I wrecked my car the other day and had to take a day off. Damn snow and it's Rock n' Roll music. I'm fine, had my safety restraint on, but the car has had better days.

Here is a math equation that you might find interesting though:

(Ice + Slush) * Hill = Brakes Stop Working or (BSW)

(BSW) * Moving Car = Out Of Control Car or (OOCC)

(OOCC) + Non-Moving Car = Crash

Bad Guys and Coins

Things are still moving in a good direction after taking two days off. I have added coins to the game, a little something extra to do. Some more animal friends and villains. Up to 7 levels now!!! Not to bad since I've only worked on the game for about 5 days, roughly 4 hours a day.

If anyone has any suggestions on bad guys let me know, All I really have right now is a Hippo and a Scorpion.
I tried a snake, but my art skills aren't the best and I couldn't get it to look right.

Blokchut

It's been three days since I started working on the new game, and I have to say it could not be going any smoother. Physics are done, mechanics are done, most of the artwork is done, all that I need to do now is to grind out 47 more levels ~~and add some sound.~~

I'm not to sure about the name yet. Blokchut is what I put in for a filler, but I don't think I'm going to stick with it. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to leave a comment.

Below is a Demo with the first ~~three~~ four levels, ~~no sound~~, but you'll get a good idea of what the game is going to be like. Hope you enjoy.

Started working on a new game today, trying something a little different. I don't have much of an idea of the main game mechanics yet, but it will be a platform style, and I have a good idea for the artwork. I'll leave some concept art to give an idea of the style.

It's been awhile since I've made any posts, Haven't been very motivated to work with the blog, to many "important" things going on at the moment. So I plan on taking this site in a new direction. Any project that I begin to work on I'll take advise and suggestions from anyone who leaves a comment about said project. I'll also try my best to answer any questions regarding flash programing or how I make my games. I don't know how often I'll make posts, I have been spending a lot of time scheming with Dr. Zaius, over at Zaius Nation. Unfortunately I will not be able to discuss any projects Dr. Zaius and I are working on, in fear of Dr. Zaius scrambling my brains. I hope you understand this inconvenience.

On a side note, the server I was using to host the majority of my files closed there doors. So that explains why the majority of the files on the blog are missing, still trying to find an alternate host. In the meantime feel free to comment on the posts filled with nothingness.

Sometimes I don't realize what I am getting myself into when I start a new game with Dr. Zaius. It always seems easier out load but wants we get started we don't know when it'll end. By far however this is my favorite game to date. Who would have thought keeping the church out of the state could be so much fun.

Time to hate on Glenn Beck. I don't know what it is about this guy. If it's his face, his voice, or all of the crap that he spews out of the hole on his face, but I really dislike the guy. Today I found a video of him blaming all of America's problems on Atheists. Becuase we all know taking the word God off of our currency is what's going to destroy America, that and the "Death Panel" of course. Anyhow after watching this video I really just wanted to punch the guy in the face. I had some free time, So here you go, punch Mr. Beck until your hearts content.

Thank Dr. Zaius for the Awesome Glenn Beck head I'm using. When we were working on Wack-A-Wingnut he made all these great head cutouts, and I cant bare to let a good thing go to waste.

While I was surfing the interwebs today I came across a video of Glenn Beck pretending to throw a frog in boiling water. Now it may have been a joke, but when The Great Frog Overlords come and see this video I don't think they'll take to kindly as the rest of us. The last thing I want to do is anger Hypnotoad, who just happens to be a good friend of the Overlords. So as a sacrificial offering you can throw Glenn Beck in a pot of boiling water. With three exciting yells of terror.
